One-of-a-kind
Bred for therapy work from AKC champions, Sunny was perfect. He was the dog everyone always searches for -- the dog that turned us into breeders.

Lower genetic risks, like cancer
We have a stock of Sunny’s sperm saved at a renowned veterinary center in Minnesota. We breed only twice per year and only with Sunny’s sperm, which helps ensure premium pups and lowers the odds of genetic issues, like cancer.
We prioritize family and dog show professionals and sell our extra puppies at a premium to buyers around North America.

Zero stress

Utterly silent. Sunny was bred to help in nursing homes and hospitals, which requires muteness. He did not bark except to protect the family, like if a snake got close to the children, in extreme duress. Because of this remarkable quality, we were able to work from home without a single meeting interruption in Sunny’s entire life. We also traveled throughout North America (30 states and 3 countries) with Sunny and he was welcomed by hotels everywhere he went, including five-star hotels that did not usually permit dogs.

No leash needed: Sunny was the perfect hiking and walking companion. He would trot 20 or 30 yards ahead to make sure everything was safe and then turn and wait for us. We did not have to train this behavior. He had a strong sense of home and family. There was no such thing as losing Sunny. He stayed close and always returned without training for this behavior. Even our elderly relatives loved to care for Sunny for days at a time without help because they did not have to worry about chasing him. He bonded with our oldest and youngest family members and made them feel special. Everyone loved him.

No exercise needed. Although Sunny loved to go for walks and hikes (see below), he had a special quality that some golden retrievers possess: the uncanny ability to zoom in circles around the yard at top speed, all by himself, unprompted, to get the exercise he needed on days we couldn’t provide it for him—returning to the door promptly when finished.

Children & the elderly

Lover of children. Sunny raised three human babies from infancy through toddlerhood. He would let them pull at his eyes and ears with absolute patience. We trusted him implicitly with the children.

Vulnerability radar. Sunny could reach people emotionally in a way humans couldn’t. He sought out the vulnerable and would find the weakest person in the room (a child, an elderly person, a disabled person, or someone who was having a tough day) and curl up with them.

“Social” is an understatement. We could take him to any dog park or human party — he was extremely social in a way that was remarkable even for a golden and he was absolutely welcome -- desired -- everywhere he went.

Sensitive to anxiety. He knew when you were down or stressed. He would stay close and provide his talent for helping you reshape your perspective and focus on the joyous things in life.

Show-stopper
Photo magnet. We literally could not take Sunny for a walk without people stopping us to ask for pictures with him -- from Central Park in New York City to the cornfields of Nebraska (Sunny enjoyed viewing the famous Sandhill Crane Migration at Platte River Valley in 2020) to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to Grant Park in Chicago to Lake Minnetonka west of Minneapolis, Sunny became famous everywhere he went.
A grand traveller. Sunny visited 30 states and 3 countries (see below). We were so proud of him that we took him everywhere. He was a grand dog.
Breeders by popular request. After 40 years as dog owners, we became breeders because so many people -- literally hundreds -- asked if they could have one of Sunny’s puppies. Now, a few of them can.

Explorer

From the Rockies to the Appalachians, Sunny loved to explore the country with us. He pushed us up mountain hikes too numerous to count, including Roanoke Star Scenic Overlook and Rock Point Overlook in Virginia, the high points of North Carolina (Mount Mitchell), Georgia (Brasstown Bald), Minnesota (Eagle Mountain), Massachusettes (Mount Greylock), Indiana (Hoosier Hill), Florida (Britton Hill), Alabama (Cheaha Mountain), Mississippi (Woodall Mountain), and others. He motivated us up Scotts Bluff National Monument in Nebraska, across the Sleeping Giant of Lake Superior in Northern Ontario, across the rocks of Acadia National Park in Maine, and gave us confidence on a boat tour through the swamps and bayous of the Atchafalaya River in Louisiana. He was an amazing companion.
